BlackLetter was used throughout Europe from about 1150 until the end of the 17th century. One of my current preoccupations is developing a set of modern BlackLetter capitals that are highly legible, in BlackLetter terms, and yet retain the richness and beauty inherent in this ancient category of letterform. From time to time I will film clips like this to record my progress.

Thermodo ~ The Tiny Thermometer for Mobile Devices ★

Thermodo is a tiny electrical thermometer that lets you measure the temperature right where you are. For iPhone, iPad, Android & more.

Thermodo consists of a passive temperature sensor built into a standard 4 pole audio jack enclosed by a sturdy housing. This allows your mobile device to read Thermodo’s temperature straight from the audio input. Thermodo sends an audio signal through the temperature sensor. This sensor will then attenuate the signal amplitude depending on the actual temperature. This attenuation can now be detected on the microphone input and through software we calculate the corresponding temperature. Easy peasy! We call this the Thermodo Principle™.

Wieder ein Kickstarter-Projekt das mit Sicherheit durch die Decke schießt und das Ziel weit übertreffen wird. Ich habe auf jeden Fall sofort gebackt und bin gespannt was die Jungs von Robocat da kreieren.

Ein Mitschnitt der Session mit Lea Verou zum Thema “More CSS Secrets: Another 10 things you may not know about CSS” auf der W3Conf 2013. Der zweite Teil einer sehr ansehnlichen und immer wieder interessanten Session zu CSS3-Features die man höchstens mal irgendwo angerissen hat, aber doch eher selten nutzt.
animation steps, width mit #ch — yay?! Der “Browser-Support“-Screen ist leider jedes Mal ein wenig schmerzhaft. Der Performance-Frage ist Lea dann gut ausgewichen… wer in einer Lightbox den Browser-Overlay mit einem riesigen Box-Shadow erstellt, sollte da auch besser nicht drauf antworten ;-)
